Victorville Woman Gives Birth In Car On Freeway

LA PUENTE (CBSLA.com) — A Victorville woman gave birth over the weekend in a car on a major freeway.

Sergio Gomez was driving his wife, Silvia Guzman, to a West Covina hospital in the carpool lane of the 10 just before the 57 Freeway when she couldn't wait any longer to have the couple's third son.

"I said, 'What are you doing?' She said, 'I'm having the baby.' I said, 'No, you're not,'" Gomez said.

KCAL9's Crystal Cruz reports that the newborn couldn't even wait for his dad to pull over the car or mom to get undressed.

"Everything was really fast. I was wearing like, sweats, and then all of a sudden we're going down the Cajon Pass and I just feel a pop and I started undressing. And Sergio is saying, 'What are you doing? Why are you taking off your clothes?' I'm like, 'He's coming, he's coming,' " Guzman said.

Guzman pulled baby Austin out, who was born a few days early on 6-14 at 6 pounds, 14 ounces.
