Vehicle Collides Into Tree In O.C. Killing Driver, 21

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man was killed and two passengers were injured when the car they were traveling in collided into a tree in Huntington Beach.

The fatal accident was reported about 8 p.m. Friday in the area of Beach Boulevard and Sterling Drive, according to a written statement provided by the Huntington Beach Police Department.

When officers arrived, they located the vehicle, and two, 22-year-old passengers.

Both were outside of the car. They were initially treated at the scene for moderate injuries, and were then taken to UCI Medical Center for further treatment.

The driver of the vehicle, described as a 21-year-old man from Rowland Heights, was found inside the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said that preliminary information suggests that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it lost traction, and collided with a tree. Police suspect that alcohol played a factor.

Anyone with information about the crash was asked to call investigators Tai Huynh with the Huntington Beach Police Accident at (714) 536-5670 or Robert Barr at (714) 536-5666.
