Large Fire Tears Through Abandoned Motel In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters were battling a large fire that tore through a multi-story structure in the Van Nuys area.

The blaze broke out about 2 p.m. in the 6400 block of N. Sepulveda Boulevard and caused a large plume of smoke to be visible across the San Fernando Valley.

Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department said that defensive operations were underway.

The fire was declared contained and knocked down at 5:23 pm, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported.

No civilians or firefighters were injured.

All but one lane of Sepulveda Blvd between Victory and Kitridge have been reopened.
