USC Set To Play Alabama At Cowboy Stadium In 2016 Season Opener

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) - USC announced Wednesday that they will open the 2016 season against Alabama in the 8th annual Cowboys Classic on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 3.

The two college football heavyweights have combined for 26 national championships and have met seven times before, with Alabama holding a 5-2 advantage.

The last time these two teams last met was in 1985, but it has been since 1976 since they both played in a regular season game, when the Crimson Tide were the AP national champions and the Trojans finished No. 1 in the UPI poll. Alabama's only loss that season was 24-14 to USC.
