USC Names Former NFL Wide Receiver Lynn Swann As Athletic Director

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Former NFL wide receiver Lynn Swann will act as the next athletic director for the University of Southern California.

The Trojans made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Swann, 64, will be replacing Pat Haden, who announced his retirement after facing criticism for the firing of football coach Steve Sarkisian.

Haden will step down from his position in June.

In 1972, Swann helped lead the Trojans to an undefeated national championship season.

He won four Super Bowls with the Pittsburgh Steelers and was named MVP of Super Bowl X.

Swann retired from the NFL in 1983 and was later inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2001.

He earned his bachelor's degree in public relations from USC.
