Man In Custody After Standoff In Carson

CARSON (CBSLA.com) — A man possibly armed with a knife surrendered just after 8 a.m. Sunday, after a standoff that lasted for hours.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, he was wanted in connection with an assault.

At one point, smoke was seen coming from the second floor apartment in the 23400 block of Avalon Boulevard.

Los Angeles County Fire units responded, but the fire did not spread.

A SWAT and crisis negotiation team were on hand.

After several hours the suspect eventually surrendered to deputies without incident at approximately 7:50 a.m.

He was transported to the Carson Sheriff's Station and booked for assault with a deadly weapon.
