Uber Driver Arrested On Drug And Weapons Charges While Carrying 3 Passengers

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A Corona man was arrested in Costa Mesa early Monday morning while driving for Uber. At the time of the arrest, he had three passengers in his back seat.

According to police, Ramon Iribe, 23, had an outstanding arrest warrant and was carrying a knife, drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine when he was pulled over after running a red light.

"The cops told us that he had been drinking and was on methamphetamine and that he had been smoking marijuana," said a passenger who was with Iribe but didn't want to be identified. She said Iribe drove erratically, and made it just one block before police stopped him.

Iribe has a criminal history that includes a domestic violence arrest and misdemeanors.

An Uber spokesperson said a criminal background check on Iribe didn't turn up any convictions. Because court records can take 18 months to update, background checks don't always show recent convictions.

Uber removed Iribe from its system. He was booked into the Orange County jail and was bailed out by his mother.
