At around 3:30 a.m., a Honda Accord traveling the wrong way on the northbound 5 Freeway connector road to the 14 Freeway slammed into two other cars, according to California Highway Patrol.

Two men in their 30s who were in a Accord died at the scene. A woman in her 20s who was in one of the other cars was rushed to a hospital with critical injuries, but later died. Two other people were hurt but are expected to survive, CHP reports.

No names were immediately released.

The Accord was speeding in the wrong direction for about four miles prior to the crash, CHP said. Speed and alcohol were likely factors in the crash, CHP Sgt. Chris Cabral told reporters.

A Sig Alert was issued and the transition road from the northbound 5 Freeway to the 14 Freeway was shut down for several hours, CHP reports, creating delays for morning commuters. It was reopened just before 8 a.m.

Along with CHP, Caltrans, the Los Angeles Fire Department and the L.A. County Fire Department all responded.
