Twitter Threat Prompts Lockdown At High School In Pico Rivera
PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — A threat on a Twitter account Thursday prompted a lockdown at El Rancho High School in Pico Rivera, and authorities say a male student was detained for questioning.
Deputies learned of the threat shortly before 8 a.m., according to the sheriff's department.
"A Twitter account, allegedly belonging to a student from El Rancho High School, sent a message out earlier in the morning indicating the student planned to 'shoot up the school' with a firearm," a sheriff's statement said.
"He also indicated he wanted to bomb the school. Investigators identified the account holder as a student currently enrolled at the school," the department said.
The school was placed on lockdown and the student, reportedly a sophomore, was found on campus in a room with other students, according to a statement posted on Facebook from El Rancho Schools.
"Deputies created a sound diversion, entered the room and the student was detained. He did not have any weapons on him," the statement said.
No injuries were reported, and investigators determined there was no longer a threat to the campus.
The lockdown was lifted at 9:10 a.m.
