Tutor Allegedly At Center Of Cheating Scandal Still Missing

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — New year, old suspect.

Newport Beach Police are still looking to question a tutor concerning his alleged role in a cheating scandal that rocked Corona del Mar High School last month.

KNX 1070's Mike Landa says 28-year-old Timothy Lai, the tutor in question, is still missing.

For two weeks, Newport Beach Police detectives have wanted to question him.

Landa says Lai is accused of helping as many as 12 Corona del Mar High students hack into faculty computers to get test material and change grades.

Newport Beach Police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said authorities have "additional questions" for Lai.

Investigators believe the school computers may have been compromised with a device known as a keylogger.
