Tustin Police Looking For Witnesses Who Saw Truck Fatally Strike Boy, 12

TUSTIN (CBSLA.com)   —   Tustin Police asked for the public to come forward if they witnessed a vehicle fatally strike a pedestrian Friday.

The victim was a 12-year-old boy with autism, officials said.

The boy was later identified as Tustin resident Carson Shortes,  according to the coroner's office.

The fatal accident happened around 8 p.m. on Jamboree Road  just north of Champion Way, according to Tustin Police Sgt. Andy Birozy.

The pickup truck driver remained at the scene and is cooperating  with investigators, Birozy said. Alcohol and drugs are not believed to be  factors in the crash, he added. "It appears to be a tragic accident."

The boy reportedly ran into the roadway, Birozy said.

Paramedics rushed the child to Children's Hospital of Orange County in  Orange, where he died from his injuries at 8:38 p.m. Friday, according to the  coroner's office.

Anyone who may have witnessed the accident was asked to call traffic investigators at (714) 573-3200.
