Turkey Platter Museum To Open In Chinatown

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A Turkey Platter Museum will be open to the public in downtown Los Angeles starting this weekend.

For the past forty years, local collector Helen Gleason has been buying turkey platters at antique stores, estate sales, swap meets, yard sales and cross-country collectibles shopping trips.

She has assembled more than 200 of them from her private collection for the display at the Red Pipe Gallery, at 978 Chung King Rd. in Chinatown.

The exhibit, which opens Nov. 23, will give an exciting overview of Thanksgiving in America through the eyes of dozens nameless artists and craftspeople from all around the world.

The Turkey Platter Museum will be open Wednesday through Sunday noon to 5 p.m. through Jan. 4, 2015. It will not be open Thanksgiving or Christmas Day.
