Truck Driver Killed In Fiery 6-Vehicle Crash In Torrance

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com)  —   Authorities said the driver of a truck was killed Saturday after causing a fiery six-vehicle crash in Torrance.

Officials said the deadly crash also set a power pole on fire and blocked a busy intersection.

Witnesses said the truck was traveling west on Torrance Boulevard at a high rate of speed at about 1:40 p.m. when it came upon backed-up traffic at Madrona Avenue.

The driver was not able to stop in time, according to Torrance Police Sgt. Paul Kranke.

The unidentified driver struck a tree, several cars and a power pole before overturning and bursting into flames on Madrona, Kranke said.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Torrance Fire Department Battalion Chief Bob Millea.

Other than the truck driver, all other injuries were minor, he said.
