Trial To Begin For LAUSD Teacher Accused Of Fatally Stabbing Wife
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The trial for a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher accused of killing his wife in 2013 was scheduled to begin Tuesday.
Micheal Rodney Kane, a former Nestle Avenue Charter Elementary School teacher, pleaded not guilty to one count each of murder, first-degree burglary with a person present, assault with a deadly weapon and making criminal threats.
Authorities say in June 2013 the 48-year-old confronted his wife, Michelle, at her friend's home in West Hills where she was staying with their two young children after she filed a temporary restraining order against him.
When she attempted to flee, he chased her outside and stabbed her in the street. Neighbors say they heard Michelle's cries as she begged her husband of 10 years to stop.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
If convicted, Kane faces up to life in prison.
