Large Tree Nearly Crushes Home In Hancock Park

HANCOCK PARK (CBSLA.com) — Crews Wednesday investigated what caused a large tree to nearly crush a home in Hancock Park.

Officials said the tree came crashing down just before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The tree struck the house, located on Cahuenga Boulevard near the Wilshire Country Club, and landed in the driveway.

The weight of the tree crushed a metal gate, cracked a wall of the residence and trapped two vehicles in the driveway.

No injuries were reported.

The family who lives at the home reported they were concerned about the tree prior to the incident as it was leaning over before rain and winds blew through the area.

City leaders said they remain concerned about the effect that drought conditions and El Niño storms are having on older trees in the city.

Authorities are now taking preventative measures to safely remove the dead trees before they fall.

Crews plan to haul away the tree at a later date.
