Trash Truck Runs Over Man Sleeping On Beach

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A beach maintenance worker collecting trash in a small truck ran over a man sleeping on the sand in Long Beach on Tuesday.

The victim, who was lying face-down on the beach, was hit around 9 a.m. between 54th and 55th Place, according to Ed Kamlan of the Long Beach City Manager's Office.

The man, who was described as homeless, was taken to the hospital. His injuries are non-life-threatening.

Neighbors said they've seen the same man sleeping on the beach for the last four months. On Tuesday morning, however, they said he slept more out in the open.

City officials told KCAL9's Stacey Butler that the incident was an accident.

Residents said the maintenance worker always drives carefully and slowly when he's out on the beach.
