Torrance Woman Sentenced To Life In Prison For Fatally Stabbing Her 3 Young Daughters

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A 32-year-old mother was sentenced to life in prison Monday for killing her three young daughters at their home in Torrance.

According to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, Carol Coronado has been ordered to spend the rest of her life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On May 20, 2014, Coronado fatally stabbed her daughters, Sophia, 2, 16-month-old Yazmine, and two-month-old Xenia. She was also acquitted of an attempted murder charge involving her mother, who found the children's bodies.

Coronado's lawyers argued she suffered from postpartum psychosis. However, in Dec. 2015, a judge ruled the South Bay mother was sane at the time of the murders.

During today's hearing, a judge stated Coronado needs treatment, but "the treatment will have to be in state prison."
