Topanga Canyon Blvd. Still Closed As Crews Battle Malibu Fire

MALIBU (CBSLA.com) – Hundreds of firefighters were making good progress on two wildfires that broke out Thursday afternoon in Malibu and Calabasas.

The Topanga Fire had burned about 20 acres off Topanga Canyon Boulevard and Pacific Coast Highway. It was 10 percent contained as of Friday morning. Forward progress of the blaze had been stopped, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

However, Topanga Canyon Boulevard remained shut down between Pacific Coast Highway and Grand View Drive. The PCH, which wad been closed, was open in both directions.

Meanwhile, the Stokes Fire burning near Stokes Road and Mulholland Drive had scorched about 40 acres and was 80 percent contained as Friday morning, according to the city of Calabasas. Forward progress had also been stopped on that blaze.

A firefighter on the Stokes Fire had to be taken to a hospital for minor heat exhaustion.

There was no damage to homes or evacuations for either fire. Their causes are under investigation.
