Toddler Found Wandering Streets Of Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) – Police have located the mother of a little girl who was found alone in the streets of Van Nuys Tuesday evening.

According to Los Angeles police, someone before 6:30 p.m. someone spotted the 2-year-old girl wandering in the 7200 block of Kester Avenue, near Sherman Way. She was in diapers and appeared to only speak Spanish.

"She was wearing no shoes, she had socks on, and they didn't see anyone around the area, so they held her and called the police immediately," Officer Julio De Leon told reporters at a news briefing.

At 8:45 p.m., LAPD reported that the girl's mother had been located. The mother told investigators she was taking a shower and left a sibling in charge of the girl. When the mother got out of the shower, the girl was gone. The mother told police the house appeared intact and there was no signs of how her daughter may have gotten out.

The mother was being interviewed by Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services Tuesday night.
