Toddler Found Wandering Streets Alone Overnight In South LA

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — The mother of a toddler found roaming the streets of South Los Angeles early Thursday morning was located.

The woman showed up at the LAPD's Southeast Division around 4:30 a.m. looking for her 2-year-old son, officials said.

The boy was found wandering the streets at 2:30 a.m. near the busy intersection of 98th and Figueroa streets.

"Yeah I was driving down Fig, and he just darted off and ran into this street and then ran back on the side walk and was just running around," a witness said.

That man and several other Good Samaritans stayed with the toddler, who was only dressed in pajamas and a t-shirt, until police arrived.

"Any child in this cold weather and in this time shouldn't be out. It is very concerning for the Los Angeles Police Department to make sure that the child's in proper custody," LAPD Sgt. Tim Jones said.

Child Protective Services were contacted to take the child into custody while officers question his mother.
