Time Warner-Comcast Deal Break Could Extend Dodgers' TV Blackout
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — It looks like Dodgers fans may be left out watching the Blue Crew and Vin Scully for at least one more season after the merger between Time Warner and Comcast is reportedly set to break off.
According to reports owned by Comcast, CNBC said that the cable giant could make the announcement as soon as Friday after it learned Wednesday that the government was getting ready to challenge the plan.
"That creates uncertainty for a while," said Ed Desser, president of Desser Sports Media told LA Times. "Uncertainty is not helpful in terms of resolving this."
Many fans were hoping for the merger to go through because they thought Comcast would help negotiate distribution to other providers, but now the blackout seems to last for the rest of the 2015 season.
It has been a full season plus three weeks of the 2015 season during which 70 percent of the people of Los Angeles don't have an option to watch the Dodgers in their living rooms.
TWC's SportsNetLA is on its second of 25 seasons broadcasting the Dodgers.
