Tide Is High And Residents On The Coast Are On Edge

REDONDO BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Strong waves have residents up and down the coast worrying about possible property damage.

Reporting for KCAL9, Adrianna Weingold in Redondo Beach, said the high surf was "quite a show by Mother Nature -- waves are 20-25 feet."

The King Harbor Yacht Club was already closed because of the high surf.

While pretty to look at, Weingold said the high waves and surf have residents on edge.

Lucien Hall stood near a break wall as waves crashed in the Harbor. He's kept a boat docked here for more than 14 years and he knows how powerful the big waves can get.

"When the waves come over, it creates a surge, and with the boat going back and forth it ripped the cleats right out of the dock," said Hall.

The only people allowed to go on the docks, reported Weingold, were boat owners and even they were told to only go "at their own risk."

The waves are big and spectacular. But also dangerous.

"Even though it's blocked off, it's still pretty awesome [to see]," said Gabriel Rubiano, a resident who came to take pictures of the waves.

"Our boats were bouncing around like ping pong balls all day," said Ted Litwiller.
