Thursday Marks Sheriff Lee Baca's Last Day At Head Of LASD

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Thursday is Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca's last day in office.

Baca, who will step down from his post around noon, severed nearly 16 years as head of the department.

The 71-year-old's retirement comes at time when the LASD has been plagued with scandal, including a federal investigation for allegedly mistreating jail inmates.

Orange County Undersheriff John Scott has been appointed interim sheriff for the LASD and will be sworn in at 2 p.m.

Baca made his announcement to step down on Jan. 7.
