Thunderstorms Could Hit Inland Areas As Soon As This Afternoon

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Burning, hot rays of sunshine that have been plaguing Southern Californians for the past several days could be replaced this week with rain.

A low-pressure system has been moving toward California's southwestern coast from west of Baja California, "bringing a possibility of showers and thunderstorms to much of the area" Wednesday and Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are most likely in inland Los Angeles County, and the mountains and valleys in Riverside County.

Rain could break out as early as Wednesday afternoon.

NWS forecasters set the chance of precipitation at 20 percent Wednesday. Temperatures, meanwhile, will remain relatively high -- generally the high 80s and low 90s.
