Man Seen Throwing Rocks At Cars In Montclair Wounded In Officer-Involved Shooting

MONTCLAIR (CBSLA) — A man who was reportedly throwing rocks at cars in Montclair has been wounded Wednesday in an officer-involved shooting.

Police activity shut down the Central Avenue onramp and offramp to the 10 Freeway just after 6 a.m. A stretch of Central Avenue, just outside of a Costco, was closed closed off for the investigation.

Police say there are at least seven victims whose cars were damaged by the rock throwing. One of the victims was Rigo Garcia, who said the first rock thrown at his car did no damage, so he tried to drive around the suspect.

"Soon as I was trying to go around him, he got in front of me, he ran in front of me and threw the other rock with both hands and shattered my windshield," Garcia said.

The suspect ran away when officers arrived, and Garcia says he saw him fall down after a short foot chase.

The man, who has not been identified, has been taken to a hospital with gunshot wounds, but it wasn't his first visit to a hospital Tuesday.

Earlier in the morning, Upland police said the same man was reported to be acting strangely and swinging a stick. Officers took him to a hospital, but he left and was later reported to have assaulted a resident inside their home in Upland before resurfacing in Montclair, according to Montclair police Chief Robert Avels.

In the Montclair incident, the man could face a charge of assault with a deadly weapon.
