'The Jeffersons' Actor Irwin Keyes Dies At 63

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Irwin Keyes, who was Hugo the bodyguard on TV's "The Jeffersons" and had a long career playing villains and henchmen, has died in Southern California. He was 63.

His manager, Travis Engle, says Keyes died Wednesday morning in Playa del Rey due to complications from acromegaly, a hormonal disorder he suffered from throughout his life.

Keyes was born in New York City and acted in horror films including "Friday the 13th" and "House of 1,000 Corpses" as well as comedies, action movies and sitcoms.

Engle calls Keyes "probably one of the last of a generation of true character actors."

He says Keyes recently finished writing an autobiography that will be published next year.
