Temecula Family Adopts Chihuahua Mix Rescued From Dumpster
RIVERSIDE COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — A 3-year-old Chihuahua mix that was rescued from a dumpster in the city of Jurupa Valley has been recently adopted.
According to the Riverside County Department of Animal Services, Oscar was resting comfortable in his new home on Thursday.
Victor Rocha of Temecula adopted the dog on Wednesday, however, Oscar stayed an extra day at the shelter to receive his neuter surgery.
According to shelter officials, more than 100 calls came into the shelter from prospective adopters.
About a month ago, a resident at a mobile home park located in the 6000 block of Mission Boulevard discovered the dog inside of the dumpster and notified animal control services, officials said.
On Sept. 13, officer Tiffany Fuller retrieved the dog that was found slightly overheated and a bit shy.
Riverside County Animal Services sought the public's help to determine who had purposely harmed Oscar, however, the owner never came forward.
A $2,000 reward was offered to the public, but officers did not receive information leading to an arrest.
Oscar now freely roams his new 4,000-square-foot home with two other dogs — a 7-year-old Golden Retriever and a 2-year-old Labrador-Pitbull mix — and a Calico cat.
