Teen, Who Survived 5 Freeway Wreck, Killed By Traffic

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Police say that a teenager who survived a car crash with a big rig was killed as he tried to escape traffic on the freeway where the accident happened.

The incident on Interstate 5 in Los Angeles was reported to the California Highway Patrol at 4:20 a.m. Saturday.

The 18-year-old was a passenger in a Honda Accord that crashed with the truck, and came to a rest blocking the two left lanes.

As he tried to get to safety, the teenager was fatally struck by another vehicle, which did not stop.

The teen has been identified as Blake Cook of Saugus.

Cook was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was injured in the crash. But the driver of the car that Cook was a passenger in was booked for DUI.

Authorities say they do not have information on the vehicle that killed Cook.

Saturday evening, friends and family held an emotional vigil for the teen.
