Teenager riding pocket bike fatally struck by hit-and-run driver in Los Angeles

A teenage boy riding a pocket bike was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver in Los Angeles Sunday morning.

The Los Angeles Police Department said a vehicle was traveling northbound on San Pedro Street when it hit the teen near 99th Street at around 2 a.m. 

The victim was identified on Monday as Hayden Leslie Neighbors, 16, by the Los Angeles Department of Medical Examiner. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man driving the car, a dark-colored Toyota Corolla, fled the scene without stopping to help render aid. Eventually, he also abandoned the car and continued to flee on foot. It was towed by police as evidence.

He is only described as a man in his 20s with a heavy build and remains outstanding while the LAPD continues to investigate the incident. 

As with all deadly hit-and-runs in the city of Los Angeles, officials have offered a standing reward of up to $50,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver.
