Teen Arrested For Felony DUI After Several Injured In Multi-Vehicle Crash In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old was in custody Tuesday for a felony DUI after a multi-vehicle crash injured several people in the San Fernando Valley.

The accident involving four vehicles took place around midnight at the intersection of Victory and Van Nuys boulevards.

The driver of a Volkswagen Passat was traveling southbound on Van Nuys at about double the speed limit when he reportedly ran a red light and struck three other vehicles, according to LAPD Det. Bill Bustos.

Los Angeles firefighters were sent to the scene to extricate two women, which took about 20 minutes.

One woman was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, and three others suffered serious injuries.

"We are very concerned when something like this happens with a tremendous amount of damage and the injuries suffered by all involved," Bustos said.

The teenage driver was taken into custody at the hospital on suspicion of driving under the influence.

The intersection was expected to remain closed for several hours.

Police asked anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them.
