Family Mourns Taxi Driver Found Shot To Death Inside Cab In El Sereno

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A family on Monday night was mourning the shooting death of a taxi driver and father of four in El Sereno.

Antonio Gonzalez Paz, 43, was found shot to death inside his car at Indiana Avenue and Worth Street after police received a call of a shooting at 9:35 p.m. Sunday.

A day later, the tragedy was just beginning to sink in for Paz's family, which was honoring him with roses and candles at the scene where he was killed.

"It was like someone stabbed me, really really deep," said Paz's son, Fernando Paz. "I knew the risks my dad took as a cab driver, and there were incidents before where he got into situations where he was assaulted."

Fernando Paz said he believes his father was robbed and then shot by two people he was planning to pick up in the taxi.

Paz was remembered for working multiple jobs to take care of his family. For the past nine years, he drove a taxi for his brother's company.

No witnesses have come forward, police said, and detectives have not released a suspect description.

A GoFundMe account was set up to help pay for Paz's burial in his home state of Puebla, Mexico.

Anyone with information about the killing can call (877) LAPD-247.
