Swimmer Pulled From Water By Venice Beach Lifeguards Pronounced Dead At Hospital

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — A 28-year-old man who was transported to the hospital in grave condition Thursday night after he was pulled from the water near the Venice Pier by lifeguards was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The man was reported missing to lifeguards at 6:19 p.m. near Tower 19 in front of the 1900 block of Ocean Front Walk.

A rescue diver located the missing swimmer and lifeguards pulled the man, who was unconscious and in cardiac arrest, from the water and immediately began administering life support. The swimmer was underwater for as long as 30 minutes, authorities said.

He was then transported in an LA Fire Department ambulance to Marina Del Rey Hospital.

Lifeguards were cautioning swimmers this weekend to check in with lifeguards before swimming and to be mindful of rip currents.
