Burglar Surrenders In SWAT Standoff At Temple City In-N-Out
TEMPLE CITY (CBSLA) – A burglar barricaded inside an In-N-Out Burger restaurant for nearly twelve hours Monday in Temple City was sniffed out by a K9 officer.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies discovered the unarmed man when they responded to an alarm at the restaurant at approximately 2:30 a.m. in the 10600 block of Lower Azusa Road.
The suspect refused to come out, prompting a SWAT callout. Hostage negotiators were also brought to the scene to try and negotiate with him.
No one else was believed to be inside the restaurant.
The sheriff's Special Weapons Team used their confined space K9 officer Deek to find the suspect, who was found hiding inside a crawl space in the roof structure of the restaurant.
"We pulled the dog out, and a deputy goes in there and we made contact with [the suspect], then the guy peacefully surrendered," one deputy said.
The suspect surrendered to authorities just after 2 p.m.
No injuries were reported.
Local business owners told CBS2's Dave Lopez the suspect was a homeless man who was known to frequent the area and cause problems.
