SWAT Arrests Man With Knife Barricaded Inside Van Nuys Denny's Restaurant

VAN NUYS (CBSLA) -- A man was arrested Wednesday morning after he barricaded himself in the restroom of a Denny's restaurant in Van Nuys with a knife for nearly six hours.

The incident began at around 4:20 a.m. at a Denny's Restaurant in the 16400 block of Sherman Way near the Van Nuys Airport.

According to reports from the scene, before police confronted the man, he allegedly set his jacket on fire and scrambled up a tree.

Police say when they arrived, the man ran into the restaurant and barricaded himself inside, prompting SWAT to respond.

The man surrendered to police and was taken into custody at about 10:25 a.m.

No injuries were reported and no hostages were taken during the incident.
