Package Found On Freight Train In Sylmar Deemed Harmless

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say police are clearing a scene in Sylmar following the discovery of a package that was later deemed harmless.

The incident unfolded about 2 p.m. Wednesday at Roxford Street and San Fernando Road after the train's conductor saw someone running from the train.

Shortly after, the conductor did a search and found an unusual device described as a yellow cylindrical container, according to CBS2's Jennifer Kastner.

Kastner said as a precaution the Los Angeles Police Department was notified, as well as the bomb squad. The device was subsequently determined to be a manifest container.

The incident had impacted rail service by Metrolink temporarily and, as of 4:30 p.m., the scene was being cleared.

No further information was available.
