Bomb Squad Clears Suspicious Item At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a bomb squad has cleared an item previously deemed "suspicious" at Los Angeles International Airport on Saturday.

The incident unfolded just after 7:15 a.m. after an unattended item was left curbside between Terminals 2 and 3 on the upper departure levels, Sgt. Belinda Nettles, a public information officer, told CBSLA. The item had been subsequently declared "suspicious."

The discovery prompted authorities to establish a perimeter and partially evacuate employees and passengers around the ticket counter nearest to the item, Nettles said.

As of 8 a.m., Airport police reported via Twitter that police activity at the terminals has been cleared. The sergeant said traffic diversions have been lifted, and the terminals were re-populating.

No further information was immediately available.
