Suspected Killed By Deputies After 6-Hour Standoff In Bellflower

BELLFLOWER (CBSLA.com) — A man who barricaded himself inside a Bellflower apartment with a female hostage was killed by sheriff's deputies after a standoff that lasted more than six hours.

The standoff began about 5:30 a.m. in the 8800 block of Artesia Boulevard, and a sheriff's Special Weapons Team was sent to the scene, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy Amber Smith.

Sheriff's spokeswoman Nicole Nishida said the Special Weapons Team deputies contained the area and by about midday, a deputy-involved shooting occurred, killing the man.

It was not immediately clear if the man was armed or had fired at deputies.

The female hostage, possibly a wife or girlfriend, was unharmed and no other injuries were reported, Nishida said.

The exact relationship between the man and the woman was not immediately known. Deputies were initially sent to the address on a report of a "family disturbance," Nishida said.
