Suspected DUI Driver Accused Of Battering Deputy Inside Ventura County Detention Facility

VENTURA (CBSLA.com)   —  A 21-year-old Port Hueneme man is accused of driving under the influence and then attacking a deputy trying to process his arrest information.

The alleged incident took place Friday around 3:40 p.m., officials said.

Alexander Jeffrey Vannesse was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs.

While being processed at the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility, officials said Vannesse was being fingerprinted when he -- for unknown reasons -- punched a deputy in the face and began fighting.

Authorities said the deputy went to the ground with Vannesse and was able to get the upper hand.

The suspect was subdued, handcuffed and placed in a cell.

Officials said the deputy suffered abrasions and contusions on his face, elbow and knee. He was treated by medical personnel on site.

Police filed an additional charge of battery on a peace officer on Vannesse after the altercation.

Vannesse remains on a $25,000 bail.
