A suspected drunk driver triggered a deadly crash in Riverside on Thursday, police say.

The crash happened at around 9:30 p.m. on Washington Street near Gladstone Boulevard, according to the Riverside Police Department.

Investigators say that the crash occurred when 32-year-old Norco man Daniel Dubois left a driveway and began to turn onto Washington, while at the same time a 46-year-old man in a Volkswagen was approaching the same location.

Police say that Dubois was driving a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer and turned into the Volkswagen's path, which caused the smaller car to plow into the back of the truck and cause "significant damage," the Riverside police release said.

The driver, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dubois was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he was determined to be allegedly inebriated, police said. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of felony driving under the influence after the crash.

The horse was uninjured in the crash.
