Suspected Drunk Driver Drives Onto Huntington Beach Pier

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Police say an Anaheim man was drunk when he decided to drive onto the Huntington Beach Pier earlier this week.

Surveillance video released by Huntington Beach Police shows a beige-colored sedan jumping the curb onto the Pier Plaza along the 400 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 10:40 p.m. on Jan. 27.

The driver, an unidentified 27-year-old Anaheim man, drove the length of the pier, around Ruby's Diner, and made it back to find three police cars waiting for him, according to police.

No injuries or property damage was reported, police said.

The driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI, according to police.

A message posted Friday to the Huntington Beach Police Department's Facebook page includes the raw surveillance footage with the caption, "Alcohol impairs vision and what may appear to be a long extended road into the horizon is actually a pier."
