Mentally Ill Man Killed In Deputy Involved Shooting In Carson

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Detectives were sent Sunday to investigate the circumstances surrounding a deputy involved shooting that wounded one suspect in Carson.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, deputies were sent around 12:56 a.m. to the 23900 block of South Marbella Avenue on a service call regarding a mentally ill person who was armed with a knife.

Once on scene, the suspect, who was still armed with the knife, confronted one of the deputies, detectives said.

During the assault, a deputy involved shooting occurred.

The suspect was hit by gunfire, and was transported to a hospital where he later died, deputies explained.

A steak knife was recovered from the scene, deputies explained.

No deputies were injured in the shooting.
