Woman Shot, Wounded By LAPD Officers At Winnetka Motel

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – A woman is expected to survive after being shot by Los Angeles police at a motel in the Winnetka area of the San Fernando Valley early Thursday morning.

The shooting occurred just after 2:30 a.m. at the Best Western Canoga Park Motor Inn, located in the 20100 block of Vanowen Street.

Officers were called to a report of a woman who had trespassed into a room. When they arrived on scene, they discovered she was armed with a handgun, police said.

At some point during the confrontation, officers opened fire on the woman. She was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.

No officers were hurt and a gun was recovered at the scene. It's unclear exactly where in the motel the shooting occurred.

There was no word on who initially called police to the motel and how the woman got into the room.
