Suspect Shoots At Police, Injures 1 Civilian In Leimert Park

LEIMERT PARK (CBSLA) — One person was injured in a shooting in Leimert Park Wednesday night that also resulted in a shot-out LAPD patrol cruiser window.

Police responded to a shooting call near 3rd Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when they encountered an injured person. The person was shot but taken to safety while police were under fire.

After nearly 10 hours and several rounds of tear gas, the LAPD SWAT team was able to arrest their suspect.

The suspect, who is wheelchair bound, began firing, missing officers but hitting his dog and the squad car that had responded to the 911 call.

Despite being shot at, LAPD officers did not fire one shot at the suspect.

The LAPD says restraint has been a major focus in training, especially over the past few years.
