HIGHLAND (CBSLA.com) — Sparks flew during a high-speed police chase Tuesday night in San Bernardino County.

Deputies tried to pull over a driver accused of trying to run over a deputy in Phelan.

The pickup truck hit spike strips and blew out the tires, but the driver kept going on the rims, causing sparks to fly.

Deputies used the pit maneuver to end the pursuit at 40th and E Street, then approached the drive with guns drawn.

The suspect gave himself up without a fight.
