Suspect Killed In South LA Officer-Involved Shooting

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A burglary suspect was fatally wounded Monday in an officer-involved shooting in South Los Angeles.

No officers were injured in the shooting, which was reported just after 1 p.m., according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations Section.

The suspect, a man believed to be in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the LAPD.

Officers from the LAPD's Metro Division were on a crime suppression detail in the area when they saw what they believe was a car being burglarized, police said.

They chased the suspect on foot and that's when one officer fired at the suspect, who was struck and pronounced dead at the scene, according to the LAPD.

"A handgun was recovered at the scene, which investigators believe belonged to the suspect," according to a police statement.
