Suspect Killed In Huntington Beach OIS Identified

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Officials have identified a 27-year-old suspect Sunday that was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Huntington Beach last night.

According to the Orange County Coroner, Daniel Walsh of Huntington Beach was transported to UCI Medical Center in Orange Saturday where he later died.

Officers explained they received a call around 5:25 p.m. about a reckless driver in a dark SUV that was forcing cars off the road.

Huntington Beach Police officers located Walsh's vehicle on Ellis Avenue and Gothard Street. A brief pursuit ensued until Walsh collided with a tree at Ernest Drive and Gothard.

"As the officer arrived the suspect got out of the vehicle carrying a handgun and began walking onto… the driveway of a residence. The officer asked him to stop and drop the gun. The suspect turned and pointed the gun at the officer who fired and hit the suspect," O'Brien said.

Police did not have a motive in the shooting and the identity of the officer has not been released.

Detectives said they recovered a handgun at the scene, however, it was unclear if the suspect had fired any rounds.
