Man Killed In Deputy-Involved Shooting In Hemet

HEMET (CBSLA.com) — A deadly deputy-involved shooting has unfolded in Riverside County.

The incident Wednesday afternoon occurred near Cawston and Acacia avenues.

Cellphone video captured several deputies with guns drawn as they approached a small truck in Hemet. Witnesses said they saw a male driver running from officers.

"I saw the perpetrator speeding out of one of the parking lots and I saw an undercover officer following him," said one woman. "I stopped because I heard the sirens."

Riverside County Sheriff's confirm one man is dead following the shooting involving deputies from their Perris station.

"I hear the two shots," John Obote, a witness, said.

Deputies have confirmed that one man has died but would not elaborate on the circumstances that led to the shooting.

No deputies were injured.

Many at the scene spoke about what they call the "good ol' days" of Hemet.

"Quite honestly, I get really nervous about even going to Walmart in the daytime hours now, and it's a big change for us because this used to be a peaceful, rural community and it's not anymore," said Trina Macko, a resident.

Cawston and Acacia avenues are expected to be closed for hours while authorities investigate.
