Suspect Injured, Taken To Hospital Following Officer-Involved Shooting In Venice

VENICE (CBSLA) — A suspect was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound following an officer-involved shooting in Venice.

A call was issued at 5:24 p.m. with a request for an ambulance at Pacific Avenue and Thornton Court.

The male suspect was said to be approximately 35-years-old and was conscious and breathing when the ambulance arrived.

It was not immediately clear what led to the shooting,

CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Rachel Kim said no officers were injured during the incident.

After being transported to the hospital, doctors determined the man's wounds were not considered life threatening.

Police said the man who was shot was carrying a glass bottle and wooden sticks. Witnesses told police the man was acting "aggressively."

Officer tried to de-escalate the situation using less-than-lethal force.

Police are investigating whether anyone was injured prior to their arrival.

"There was some contact with the actual person that made the call, that reported it," said LAPD Sgt. Frank Preciado, "we don't know if that individual was harmed. Detectives are going to speak to those individuals and determine exactly what was the preliminary information that generated a radio call."
