Suspect In Fatal Newhall Hit-And-Run Surrenders

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — Police say a driver suspected in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 53-year-old bicyclist in Newhall has been arrested.

Lucas James Guidorz, turned himself into the Santa Clarita Sheriff station early Friday morning, shortly after the suspect vehicle was located in Canyon Country at about 3:15 a.m.

According to the coroner's office, Rod Bennett, of Valencia, was fatally struck by a dark-colored Mazda 3 at about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in the 20100 block of Placerita Canyon Road near Highway 14.

Bennett was a math teacher and a band leader at Arroyo Seco Junior High School.

Sheriff's officials say social media and tips from the public led to Guidroz's arrest.
