Armed suspect hospitalized after being shot by police in Arcadia

One person was hospitalized after a police shooting in Arcadia late Saturday evening. 

Police were called to the scene just after 9 p.m., near Diamond Street and First Avenue, after learning of a person armed with a knife in the area, according to Arcadia Police Department.

Upon arrival, officers came in contact with the suspect's mother, who made the call to report her 21-year-old daughter. While attempting to talk to the suspect, police report that she began to walk towards them while pulling a kitchen knife from her pocket.

Despite ordering her to stop, the suspect continued to move towards them and allegedly raised the knife above her shoulders, "holding it in a stabbing position, the APD statement said. 

It was then that they opened fire, striking the woman. She was shot once in the upper body.

She was taken to a nearby hospital where she is currently in stable condition. There was no information provided on her identity.
